GPT-5: When will it get launched and what to expect

Alex, June 29, 2023

Buckle up, everyone, because the AI world is buzzing with exciting news! You may have noticed the term “GPT-5” appearing in your social media feeds and news headlines. It appears to be the topic of everyone’s attention, and why shouldn’t it be? The possibilities are limitless, and the thrill is real.

This is the next great step forward in largeĀ language models, a tremendous leap that has the tech world on the edge of its seat. Consider this: past versions of ChatGPT dazzled us with their language understanding and response creation abilities.

From writing essays to creating lyrics for amazing songs or creating PowerPoint slides in just few seconds, ChatGPT-4 has made them all.

Imagine what more we could get from the much-awaited GPT-5.

GPT-5 expected features

Let’s take a closer look at ChatGPT-5’s future and how it might expand on the capabilities of its predecessor, ChatGPT 4.

1. Capabilities in many modes

While ChatGPT 4 made great progress by handling image and text inputs, it is expected that ChatGPT 5 would expand these multimodal capabilities by adding audio and video processing. This means that instead of only text and graphics, you may communicate with the AI using speech or even movies, opening up a world of new user experiences.

2. More honest responses

ChatGPT 5 aims to provide more accurate and reliable information. Although ChatGPT 4 made significant advancements in this domain, it sometimes faced challenges with complex scientific concepts and less familiar subjects, resulting in incorrect or fabricated responses (hallucinations). With a larger and more diverse training dataset, ChatGPT 5 has the potential to further enhance its knowledge and dependability.

“We will fix the hallucination problem; it may take a year or two.” – Sam Altman (OpenAI CEO)

3. Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)

One of the most captivating possibilities of ChatGPT 5 is its potential to advance toward AGI. This advancement would enable the AI to handle more intricate tasks, including collaboration with third-party services. Imagine instructing ChatGPT 5 to manage your food shopping, considering your budget and dietary preferences. It could search for recipes online, create a shopping list, and even arrange delivery!

This has the potential for even greater implications as scientists believe AGI will possess the capability to perform any intellectual tasks humans can. However, we will have to wait and see!

4. Cost effectiveness and accessibility

Following the release of GPT-5, the cost of using ChatGPT 4 is expected to fall, making the technology more accessible to a wider range of consumers. This means that more individuals will be able to use AI for tasks such as coding, translation, and research.

When to expect the release of GPT-5?

The IT and AI communities eagerly await the release of ChatGPT-5, but a delay may occur. OpenAI, the creator of the GPT series, has remained silent about their plans after GPT-4. In June 2023, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated that they do not expect to train a new model like GPT-5 in the near future.

Due to GPT-4’s development spanning over two years, the release of GPT-5 might face a delay until 2025 or later. OpenAI is renowned for surprising maneuvers, such as the swift release of GPT-4 following ChatGPT-3. They may adopt a similar strategy for GPT-5 or concentrate on enhancing GPT-4 and unveiling an intermediate version, GPT-4.5, in September or October 2023.

To understand what I mean, look at the Bing Search integration into GPT-4 that just got released.

Contrary to earlier reports of GPT-5 training completion in December 2023 and a possible 2024 release, OpenAI has clarified that GPT-5 training hasn’t started. The anticipation for GPT-5 has shifted again, as it seems OpenAI is no longer considering it as an upcoming release.

Perhaps it’s related to the “6 Month Break in AI Open Letter“?

The AI chatbot landscape is changing fast, along with our expectations. We’re eager for the next big release like GPT-5, but for now, we’ll have to wait for OpenAI’s plans to unfold.
